FUTA Releases 2026/2027 Fee Schedule for Fresh and Returning Students
The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has published the schedule of charges for undergraduate students for the 2026/2027 academic session, giving both newly admitted and returning students an opportunity to plan their finances ahead of resumption. Reports from recent student updates indicate that the university continues to maintain a policy of tuition-free education, while students pay approved charges covering registration, medical services, examinations, laboratory use, information technology services and other institutional requirements.
The published fee structure shows a clear difference between the charges for fresh students and those for returning students. Freshers generally pay higher amounts because of one-time fees attached to admission, clearance, identity cards, caution deposits and other entry-related services. Recent reports place the estimated total charges for newly admitted students at about ₦258,000, excluding accommodation and some department-specific expenses. Returning students, on the other hand, are reported to pay amounts ranging between ₦68,000 and ₦80,500, depending on their level and programme.
The fee schedule also varies according to academic level and faculty requirements. Students in engineering, science and technology-based programmes may have laboratory, workshop or practical-related charges that differ from those in other programmes. Examination fees, development levies, ICT charges and student-service fees are also reflected in the overall bill generated for each student. Because of these differences, students are advised not to rely solely on figures shared through social media or unofficial sources.
FUTA operates an online portal through which students can generate invoices and complete payments. This system allows students to see the exact charges applicable to their programme and level before making payment. Fresh students should also note that acceptance fees, accommodation charges and departmental dues may be separate from the core institutional charges and should only be paid through approved university channels.
Students preparing for the 2026/2027 session are encouraged to keep copies of all receipts and payment references after completing transactions. Those who notice discrepancies in their invoices should contact the relevant university office before making payment. This is particularly important for students who recently changed programmes, levels or admission status, as such changes can affect the amount displayed on the portal.
With the release of the 2026/2027 schedule of charges, students can now make more accurate financial plans for the new academic session. However, the most reliable amount remains the invoice generated on the official FUTA portal, since fees can vary according to programme, level and approved institutional charges. Students should therefore rely on the university’s official channels for the latest updates and payment instructions.
